This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable security standards.
2. What Personal Data We Collect and Legal Basis
a. Location Data
With your permission, DOGOUT collects and stores your device GPS location to help you discover dog-friendly places and experiences. Location tracking is active only when the app is in use or when granted background access by the user. Location data is stored securely for up to 1 year solely for feature functionality, recommendations, and safety reporting.
Legal basis: Your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
b. Account Information
When you sign up using Apple, Google, or email, we collect your name, email address, profile image (if provided), authentication, and device info.
Legal basis: Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) to provide you with the account and app features.
c. User-Generated Content (UGC)
Users can contribute public content, including reviews, ratings, photos, map markers (e.g., dog parks, water spots, cafes), and newly created dog-friendly locations. This content is publicly visible to other users by default, and providing it is optional. When you or another guardian shares a profile link, this content can also be seen by people who have no DOGOUT account at all - see section 3.
Legal basis: Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in building a community platform (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
d. Behavioral and Analytics Data
We collect usage data to improve our services, such as features you use, routes viewed, and interaction with maps and filters. Most of it is analysed in aggregate; some events carry your account identifier so we can tell a returning guardian from a new one. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles about you and we do not sell it.
Legal basis: Our legitimate interest in improving app performance and user experience (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
e. Communication Data (Push Notifications)
If you opt in, we may send push notifications regarding community activities (e.g., walk invitations, new map events) and key app updates. You can opt out at any time via your device settings.
Legal basis: Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
3. Sharing a Profile by Link (Public Profile Links)
DOGOUT gives you a Share option on guardian profiles, dog profiles and meetups. Using it creates a public link in the form https://dogout.app/app/<type>/<id>.
a. What the link does
Anyone who receives the link can open a read-only view of that profile on dogout.app - including people who have no DOGOUT account and are not logged in. There is no password and no invitation: holding the link is what grants access. In practice, sharing a profile link makes that profile public to everyone who ends up holding it, so share it only when that is what you want.
b. What the public view shows
The name, the profile photos, a dog's details (breed, age, description, photos) and the content that profile has already published in the app: posts, photos, reviews, map markers and published walks. It does not show your email address, your phone number, your home address, your private messages, or the walks and content you have kept private.
c. Link previews
When the link is pasted into a messenger, a social network or an email, we generate a preview card for it - the name, the profile photo and a short description - so the recipient can see where the link leads. The platform the link was pasted into fetches that card and keeps a copy on its own servers, and we have no control over how long it keeps it.
d. Passing the link on
Whoever receives a link can forward it further. Once a link has left your hands, we cannot control who holds it and we cannot withdraw it.
e. Sharing someone else's profile
The app also lets you share a link to another guardian's profile or another dog's profile. This passes their public profile on to the recipient - never more than that profile has already made public - and everything in this section applies to it as well.
f. How to stop sharing
Deleting the content, the dog profile or the whole account in the app (Menu > Settings > Account) makes the link stop showing that data. Preview cards already cached by third-party platforms can stay visible there for some time afterwards; write to admin@dogout.app if you need help with a specific case.
g. Share statistics
We record that a share link was created and that a shared page was opened: the type of the profile, the platform (iOS, Android, web), the time, and - when the person was logged in - the account behind the action. We use this only to measure how the feature is used.
Legal basis: Your own decision to share (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR - consent) for creating the link and for the public view; our legitimate interest in understanding how our features are used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) for the share statistics.
4. Third-Party Services
We work with the processors below, each only as far as a given feature needs:
- Supabase - backend infrastructure, authentication, database, file storage and hosting, in the EU region.
- Mapbox - maps and location features. Mapbox employs data minimization (e.g., deleting IP addresses within 30 days) and does not track individual end-user profiles.
- Google (Firebase) - push notifications, sign-in with Google, crash reporting and product analytics.
- Apple - sign-in with Apple ID.
- Amplitude - product analytics: which screens and features are used.
- Meta (Facebook) app events - measuring how our own campaigns perform inside the app.
- Sentry - error and crash reports, so we can find and fix failures.
- Resend - sending transactional email (confirmations, replies to forms you submit).
- Google Analytics - traffic statistics for the dogout.app website.
5. Data Retention
Location data is kept for up to 1 year. User accounts and UGC are retained until you request deletion. Some data may be retained temporarily for legal, security, or compliance purposes.
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and object to processing. Contact us at admin@dogout.app to exercise these rights.
7. How to Delete Your Data
You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app by going to Menu > Settings > Account. Alternatively, contact us from your registered email address at admin@dogout.app or via https://dogout.app/contact/. We will review and process your request in accordance with applicable laws.
8. Where We Store Your Data
Data is securely stored on Supabase cloud infrastructure exclusively within the European Union (EU) in compliance with GDPR.
9. Data Sharing and Security
We do not sell your data. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (TLS), stored data is encrypted at rest, access is protected by secure authentication, and we share data only with the trusted processors listed in section 4.
10. Child Safety Policy
DOGOUT is strictly for users aged 18 and older. For full details on age restrictions, our zero-tolerance policy towards CSAE and CSAM, and reporting mechanisms, please refer to our full Child Safety Policy at:

12. Additional Information / Disclaimer
DOGOUT acts solely as a connecting platform for dog guardians. We are not responsible for what happens during meetups, dog behavior, or any damages incurred during joint walks. As a dog guardian, you are entirely responsible for controlling your dog. We do not sell your personal data and we do not pass it to data brokers; the only advertising-related processing is the campaign measurement described in section 4.
