In short

Zabrze has solid options for dog walks: Park Hutniczy with a two-section fenced off-lead run (including agility equipment), the large Silesian Insurgents Forest Park with multi-kilometre trails, the newer Grzybowice Geopark with boardwalks and greenery, and the Family Park alongside the Bytomka river. A lead is required on all public land - off-lead only inside fenced dog runs. Rules can change, so always check current signage before you go.

Zabrze might not be the first city that springs to mind for a dog walk - but that's an oversight worth correcting. The city's industrial heritage sits alongside surprisingly generous green space. Park Hutniczy after its full renovation, the forested trails of Silesian Insurgents Park, the newer Grzybowice Geopark - there is real territory to explore here, if you know where to look.

Park Hutniczy - green space and walks

Park Hutniczy after its full renovation is a generous stretch of greenery in the middle of the city - shaded paths, benches, and multiple corners worth exploring at a slow on-lead pace. The park has a water play area, a skatepark, and outdoor grilling spots that make it a pleasant base for an extended walk.

A fenced dog run also operates within the park - a useful option when there is no legal open terrain nearby. Find its current location and status on the DOGOUT map.

Silesian Insurgents Forest Park - kilometres of woodland trails

The largest forested area within Zabrze's city limits. The main entrance is off ul. Czolgistow with a small car park and gate. The trail network allows for multi-kilometre routes - either on asphalt (good for cycling or rollerblading) or on packed-earth forest paths.

Dogs are welcome year-round. A lead is required at all times - as stated in the regulations posted at the entrance. Waste bins are provided along the routes, but you need to bring your own bags. The park features two ponds, a large adventure playground with a rope park, and a seasonal food stall. A shaded forest walk of a few kilometres is a great choice in summer heat - more on planning walks in warm weather in our guide to walking your dog in the heat.

Grzybowice Geopark - new space with real potential

The Zabrze Geopark in the Grzybowice district (ul. Na Lesie) is a relatively recent arrival on the city map - officially opened in June 2023. The site covers more than 9 hectares and is split into a northern and a southern section, both open to dogs.

Inside you'll find walking paths, wooden boardwalks, gazebos, picnic shelters with grilling spots, benches and loungers, ponds, and educational boards about the site's geological history. The mix of surfaces - asphalt, grass and wooden stairs - is comfortable for dogs' paws.

Rules: lead required at all times, per the posted regulations. Entry is free. The main access point is from ul. Na Lesie with a small car park.

Family Park on the Bytomka and other green areas

The Family Park on ul. Nad Kanalem is a smaller, pleasant option set in the Bytomka river valley. It has playgrounds, a sports court and green areas suitable for an everyday on-lead walk. The Bytomka itself is a modest river corridor with new pedestrian and cycling paths being developed along its banks, connecting city districts - a good option for a longer route beyond the park.

Zabrze also has several smaller dog runs scattered across the city, including near ul. Zywiecka and ul. Jaskolcza. Their condition and exact layout can change - check the DOGOUT map or the local authority for the most current picture.
